With how transparent social media is now making our lives, recruiters
have now started making the shift in the ways that they screen
employees who are trying to get jobs at their companies. When a
recruiter conducts a social media screening, they are getting a glimpse
into the life of the person, other than what they present in front of
them in the interviews and selection processes. When incorporating this
into the recruiting process, these talent acquisition agents get to know
more about the person they potentially want to give the job to.
While
conducting social media screening, it is essential to be able to
understand a few things that can contribute to the analysis that you
infer upon. There are also different sociological implications that
people belonging to different groups tend to have when they post on
their social media profiles. People who are in their thirties and
forties might not have the same posting trends and platforms, which is
why a recruiter needs to be able to understand what each age group
entails.
For example, let's take two individuals who are applying
for positions at a company. One of them is twenty-five, while the other
is forty. Both of them have Facebook, which you want to check out to
see which one would be better for the job. The younger person regularly
has pictures of his nights partying and drinking, while the older person
has a Facebook page that is relatively reserved. The presence of
pictures of the younger person drinking doesn't necessarily signify they
he would be better for the job as compared to the forty-year-old. The
younger generation live in an age where it is alright to post pictures
of every aspect of their lives on social media, while people in older
age groups might not feel it right to do so.
One of the things
that social media screening helps with is to understand the patterns
that people have in their lives. If there is a person who posts pictures
of them partying almost every night, you know that the person might
also be a borderline alcoholic or someone who isn’t going to be fully
dedicated when asked to stay back late from work. Raising up a red flag
in the screening process. Similarly, if a person constantly posts
motivational videos and pictures on their timeline, you know that this
person might bring a bit of optimism along with them to the workplace.
While
screening people using social media, it is important to understand what
information you can use, and which you can’t. Things like religious
affiliations, age, gender, sexual orientation are all aspects of
information that you cannot use when trying to decide your ideal
candidate. If you end up making your decision based on any of these
factors can lead to a rise of a discrimination suit against the company,
which is why caution must be asserted while doing this.
That’s
where automated programs like FAMA exist. Using automated processes,
these programs can make the process of social media screening easier and
a lot more efficient. Software like this make the process of scanning
candidates easier by making use of some of the most advanced screening
AI, giving you accurate results. They also minimize the probability of
human error, which can sometimes happen when recruiters go through the
process of screening potential candidates.
Being mom of two boys, I am always on the go and has to fetch my kids from school also send son for tuition. Busy parenting didn't stop me from shopping groceries, online shopping is convenient now. Next month will be Chinese New Year, there's lot of preparation for it. Today I took time off to attend the 11 Street x JOCOM: Cooking Up Prosperity Launch at One City.
Preparation work for Chinese New Year, especially the reunion dinner,
is often extensive and time-consuming. As the festive celebration is
around the corner, 11street – Malaysia’s number two online marketplace –
has reinforced its partnership with JOCOM to bring prepping and
shopping for Chinese New Year grocery items to another level of
convenience.
This partnership is off the back of
11street’s grocery category emerging as one of the platform’s continued
focus in 2018, in which it saw more than 30% increase in its gross
merchandising value (GMV) in 2017 as compared to 2016.
Bruce
Lim, Vice President of Merchandising at 11street said: “More Malaysian
consumers would start to explore shopping for groceries and other
household items online. This holds true and as 2017 comes to an end, we
expect this category to only flourish from hereon.
“This
motivates us to strengthen our collaboration with JOCOM and become the
e-commerce platform that offers great variety of fresh produce and other
frozen goods as food preparation for Chinese New Year heightens. With
our host of offering coupled with our established technological prowess,
we aim to enable consumers to use our platform as the go-to channel to
fulfil all their grocery needs, especially during the festive season.”

Director of JOCOM; and Chef Cheah Kee Khiang posing for a group photo
with couplet greetings to welcome 2018.
Chef Quality Cooking, At Home
The partnership between 11street
and JOCOM goes beyond opening an online channel for grocery shopping,
for it also includes “Cooking Up Prosperity”, a 10-episode cooking show
that will be streamed online. Featuring Chef Cheah Kee Khiang, a
prominent chef in Malaysia, and hosted by well-known host and TV
personality, Wong Chui Ling, the show will feature simple-to-follow
Chinese New Year recipes using fresh ingredients available on JOCOM’s
online store at 11street.
Joshua Sew, Chief Executive
Officer of JOCOM said: “When we first partnered with 11street last year,
we wanted to expand our outreach to a wider community. More
importantly, we hoped to empower Malaysians with the convenience of
shopping for groceries and other household items online. As a way
forward, we produced the cooking show to showcase that Chinese New Year
preparation can be made simpler if they know where to get the
ingredients and how to best prepare them, without the need to leave
their homes.”

for 10 minutes. Among the dishes featured are Golden Prosperity (Fried
Prawn with Salted Egg Floss), Tremendous Opulence (CNY Cake with Taro
& Sweet Potato), and Superior Smooth Porridge Seafood Steamboat,
with each dish taking less than 10 minutes to cook.
The
cooking show is sponsored by Clio, Desa Home, Electrolux, F&N,
Khind, Kinohimitsu, Maggi, Onenot-enough, Philips, Sharp, SJK
Electrical, Starbucks, Sublime and Trine Nexus
Joyous Prosperity [金玉满堂好来事(蚝士发菜疏)], also known as Braised Dried Oyster with Black Moss – one of the dishes which will be featured in the Cooking Up Prosperity show.
At the event, we get to see the Chef Cheah Kee Khiang cooking and this looks so yummy and delicious, would be nice to eat it with a bowl of white rice.
2018 Roadmap with Nationwide Expansion
Moving forward,
11street is geared towards enhancing the variety of groceries to
advocate the growing trend of grocery shopping for better consumer
convenience. On that note, by working with 11street, JOCOM is planning
to expand its online grocery business nationwide by Q3 of 2018,
including to the east coast. Currently, 11street’s online grocery
services is available to consumers in Klang Valley, Johor and Penang.
“Following the growth of online grocery shopping, we
hope the numbers especially the GMV and number of orders will double in
the next two years. The possibilities are limitless, in which we believe
that there are still many untapped avenues to grow the grocery segment
on the 11street platform,” Sew concluded.
In conjunction
with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration, 11street will be having
promotions for more than 3,000 home appliances, grocery and household
items, with up to 50% discounts and conditional free shipping.
On
top of lower prices, shoppers can also enjoy additional savings by
visiting the promotion page to download discount coupons worth up to
RM20 until 4 March 2018. For more information on the “Cooking Up
Prosperity” promotion, please visit
